This post is inspired by a dream I just had of a very dear friend.
When I first began my healing training over 30 years ago, one of the first classes I took was on illness and body symbology. We were taught things like grief is held in the lungs, fear is stored in the kidneys, issues on the left side of the body represent femininity and being unable to receive what we desire..
What I’ve found in working with clients since then is that trauma, pain and disease are present wherever they are in our bodies and consciousness. I've seen anger just as likely to be stuck in a knee or arm as in the liver and chronic stress as likely to affect the throat as the heart or brain.
The more I work with people and companion animals, the more I sense that trauma, pain and disease appreciate being witnessed with grace. That ankle sprains, back pain, and stomach issues value being honored in grace. That extending grace to our air conditioning systems or cars that aren’t working, can be deeply healing. Literally and metaphorically. An insight arises. Someone with expertise shows up. We’re reminded of something that worked for this problem at another time.
How might our life experience be different if we patiently offer grace to trauma, pain, disease and challenging situations? Without condition. Without timelines.
