There are many ways to boost our metabolism for optimal function. Intermittent fasting, eliminating processed foods, high intensity workouts, weight lifting, drinking green tea, maintaining a healthy gut microbiome, consciously reducing stress and getting enough quality sleep are obvious ones.

How we breathe also impacts our metabolism.

Here is a practice that, when performed twice daily, consistently, and with intention, can boost our metabolism.

Step 1:

Inhale through your nose, while expanding through your abdomen. Focus on breathing deeply to the bottom third of your lungs, using your imagination to assist.

Step 2:

Pause, then inhale further through your nose to fill your ribcage.

Step 3:

Pause, then inhale even more through your nose, filling your lungs all the way to your clavicles.

Remember to keep your shoulders relaxed and down and breathe from your abdomen. If the practice is too uncomfortable, take in less air with the first two breaths.

Lastly, exhale, first letting out air from your upper chest, then your middle chest and finally, your lower lung area.
